Do you know how many wildlife species there are in Hong Kong? 

Although Hong Kong is small, our city is incredibly rich in biodiversity. Among the tens of thousands of local marine and terrestrial species, over 5500 species have been profiled in detail on the Hong Kong Biodiversity Information Hub (HKBIH). This includes numerous crustaceans (e.g. crabs), a remarkably diverse species group in Hong Kong. They are not only important to ecosystem health but also serve as reliable indicators of environmental change.

In support of the National Ecology Day (August 15th), we are glad to have Dr. Terence Ng from the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) and Prof. Tsang Ling Ming from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) to respectively introduce the HKBIH, Hong Kong’s largest ecological repository, as well as our city’s diverse marine crustaceans. Through their talks, you will learn how to make the most of HKBIH’s facilities to explore Hong Kong’s biodiversity and discover various marine crustacean species—some of which you may have never encountered before!
